Well, so much for things not not going well. In the last five days: I lost my hard drive at work (losing all the original files for mostly everything I’ve worked on in the last two years), the fuel pump on my car went out leaving me on public transit, I got a pretty awful sunburn, and an ear infection.
However, I am taking this in stride. Or trying to. In all honesty, and here’s a reference you may not have been expecting, when my hard drive crashed I felt a little like Maureen Cummings on Center Stage, when Eric O. Jones sprains his ankle. Awful at first, and then a little relieved? In all honesty I have felt pretty fettered by my past work, and maybe secretly longing to ditch it all anyway? So while it was a devastating blow at first, maybe this will force me into a new direction.
Being on public transit has been a great opportunity to catch up on some reading, namely Mary Roach’s Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science & Sex, and Moshe Idel’s Golem: Jewish Magical and Mystical Traditions on the Artificial Anthropoid — you know, the usual.
The sunburn happened at an ideal time: right when the weather turned foul. So far I haven’t missed any days out, and now that I am back to gaining a Hemingway-esque tan, the sun is coming out again and I will be back out in it. Albeit more cognisant regarding my protection.
So far there has been no upside to the ear infection, and frankly I am not really expecting one.
A couple nights ago I made me and Josh a pretty killer dinner: almond encrusted mahi filets in a balsamic dijon glaze, with roasted zucchini, red potatoes and onion. Feeling pretty good about it: it was delicious, and I improvised the whole thing from scratch.
So that’s it for now, got some pics coming from our recent exploits, and some maybe major announcements soon? And look, Jason, it hasn’t even been a month since I last updated!
